WINTER IS HERE!

Take action now to protect your pipes from freezing and making unnecessary problems in your home.

1. Check outside spigots, make sure hoses are disconnected, and if possible shut spigots off from inside the home.

2. If you are away from home for an extended period, leave your thermostat set to at least 55 degrees and open cabinet doors where plumbing is against the outside wall to keep pipes from freezing.

3 If you have experienced frozen pipes before, leave a faucet open for a pencil size stream or less of water overnight.

4. If you are aware of an absent neighbor, or a vacant house, watch to see if water is leaking from the building or if frost has built up on the inside of the windows. Call New London Utilities if you witness either of these signs of a burst water line.
