There are easy and low cost ways to reduce energy use on the things you use every day. Make sure all computers are set to go into sleep mode when not in use. Or, better yet, plug your computers and electronics into a smart power strip to make sure everything powers down at the same time. Install a programmable thermostat to manage indoor temperatures automatically. Keep registers and baseboard heaters free of dirt and dust, make sure furniture and drapes are away from heating vents, and replace dirty furnace filters every six months. Last but not least, when buying new products, be sure to choose LED light bulbs and ENERGY STAR®-certified appliances and electronics.
